She is going to be standing along the likes of Justin Bieber, Kara and Jay Park at MTV World Stage, in the words of Mizz Nina, “Malaysia representative!” We had a quick chat with the star on her latest album, the people that she's looking forward to collaborate with, personal style and many more!
Tell us about your latest album.
Mizz Nina: I just launched my new album about a couple weeks ago, it’s called Takeover. The whole concept of this album is just the remix album, it has two discs, one of all my original tracks and the second disc is all the remixes. The packaging is really cool. When you open it, it’s like a little DJ mix set, so you have the vinyl, which is my CD, and you have the mixer, and then my little booklet which is inside the mixer. Like my first album, it talks about love and relationships, and it talks about girl power. Which is what my show’s going to be like at World Stage.
How is this album different from your other albums?
MN: It has a new angle. It’s also more dance and pop this time around. With the release of what you waiting for, it just kind of dawned upon me that the whole dance concept just works, the whole formula works, and that’s what I took into the second album.
What was your reaction when you found out you were going to be performing at MTV World Stage?
MN: I was like "What? Are you kidding me?" I couldn’t believe it. It’s basically a dream come true. I’ve always loved MTV, and wanted to perform for MTV, and even have my video playing on MTV is huge for me. It’s a huge thing for any artist. So being part of MTV World Stage is really an honour for me because I get to share the stage with such amazing artists. So being the Malaysia representative, I feel that this is huge.

So what can your fans expect from your performance?
MN: I have a half hour set, so I’ll be performing some of my hits, and a couple of my new songs from my new album. And an unreleased track that nobody has heard yet.
You’ve collaborated with Flo-Rida in the past, are you looking to collaborate with any other artists?
MN: Right now I don’t have any plans yet because I’m not really working on any new material, but there are people asking me to collaborate with them. But not just yet. Internationally I want to collaborate with Pitbull. I really love his music; I think it's right in my lane. Snoop would be really interesting to have on a track and to get him on the video, that would be cool. Lady Gaga would be interesting, but really Pitbull would be in my lane. Local artists too, Sheila Majid perhaps, maybe Siti Nurhaliza. I’m really open to anybody but I really want to try and work with Asian artists. I’ve worked with American artists, so I want to try somebody else from a different market.
How would you describe your personal style?
MN: I’m a very casual girl. I’m sporty and street chic. I like to dress for the occasion.
Do you have any fashion tips for our readers?
MN: I have fashion travelling tips. Make sure you travel with more nude colours because they’re easier to match. Always travel with leggings because they’re most the comfortable thing to travel in. Bring a pair of jeans and always bring that little black dress because you never know when you’re going to need it. And always travel with flats if you can. Which living person do you admire the most?
MN: My dad and mum. I look up to them, and what they’ve done in life and what they’ve done for the family.
What’s the best part of your job?
MN: The fact that I get to travel and meet a lot of cool people in the industry. I get to meet amazing artists and producers, and everybody that’s got to do with the entertainment industry. If you couldn’t be a singer, what would you be instead?
MN: Probably a film director. I love Avatar, if HBO plays it I’ll just watch it over and over again. I won’t get bored. It’s such a great movie.
